Veterans Day Observance

A guest speaker will talk about this day which honors all veterans, past and present. The ceremony will conclude
with a 21-gun rifle salute by the VFW/American legion Firing Detail. In addition, Korean War veteran Steve Chmela will
play Taps. This is a FREE EVENT.

About the speaker: 

D. Court Harris, a lifelong Illinois resident, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2007. 

Court served in the US Army as an Artillery officer for six years, with two combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 

From 2011-2012, he served at the NATO Regional Command West headquarters in Herat, Afghanistan, where his responsibilities included providing security and governance across 4 Afghan provinces, training 2 brigades of the Afghan National Army, and logistical support for US Special Operation strikes in western Afghanistan.

His military awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.
