Rainbow Hospice is sponsoring a public art project titled “Promises Take Flight” that will feature decorated butterfly sculptures throughout Mount Prospect, Park Ridge and Des Plaines.
On Friday, July 6, Mount Prospect and Park Ridge are teaming up for the "Butterfly Express" to celebrate the project. On July 6, people are encouraged to ride the Metra between Mount Prospect and Park Ridge to view the butterfly sculptures in each location.
Exciting events are taking place in both locations. Mount Prospect is hosting a “Friday on the Green” concert at Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson Street featuring Suburban Cowboys from 6 – 8 p.m. In Park Ridge, the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce is holding a “First Fridays Cruisin’ Park Ridge” car show from 6 to 9 p.m., where more than 200 cars are expected to line the closed streets. View the train schedule at www.metrarail.com. For more information on the events, go to experiencemountprospect.org or parkridgechamber.org.
Each butterfly was sponsored by an individual or family, local businesses, organization or other group. Each group designed and decorated their statue, which are made of fiberglass and are approximately 3 feet tall. The funds raised by the project will go to benefit Rainbow Hospice’s Good Mourning Program for Children, Teens and Families. The decorated sculptures will be on display June – October.
